The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to victims of various disasters in Niger State through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Speaking during her visit, Senator Tinubu explained that the funds would be disbursed to 70 affected families, with each receiving N1 million, while the remaining amount would be used to provide food and other essential supplies.
She expressed hope that the state would soon be free from such tragedies.
Although the visit was a private one, the First Lady commended Governor Mohammed Bago for his achievements, particularly in the agricultural sector.
“You have been doing a lot for your state and, by extension, for Nigeria in agriculture. You should be proud of yourself,” she said.
Senator Tinubu also visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.), and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.), at their residences in Minna.
She described the visit as a courtesy call to check on their well-being and seek their wisdom.
“Whatever we do in Abuja will not be complete without coming to them—asking how we are faring and seeking further advice. They are the patriarchs of this nation,” she stated.
In his remarks, Governor Bago thanked the First Lady for her visit, noting that her gesture toward the disaster victims demonstrated a motherly concern for the people.
The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, also appealed to Senator Tinubu to extend her RHI programs to Niger State, particularly in the area of agriculture.
The First Lady, accompanied by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, also used the visit to commiserate with the state over the recent explosion that claimed several lives.
