First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged off the South-East phase of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Anambra State, aimed at tackling child malnutrition and improving nutrition outcomes across the region.
The flag-off marked the completion of the national rollout of the intervention across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Speaking at the event, held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Senator Tinubu called for political differences to be set aside in addressing the needs of Nigerians, particularly children.
Addressing residents who gathered to welcome her, the First Lady described the nationwide rollout of the initiative as a “mission accomplished,” expressing optimism about the future of Nigerian children.
She said the South-East rollout should stimulate renewed interest and commitment at all levels of government and among stakeholders towards improving child nutrition across the country.
Senator Tinubu commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, and his wife for their various policies and programmes, describing them as evidence of the governor’s progressive ideological outlook.
During her one-day official visit to the state, the First Lady also inaugurated a new RHI/TETFUND ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Interacting with students at one of the institution’s lecture theatres, Senator Tinubu urged them to explore constructive ways of using technology, particularly artificial intelligence, to address societal challenges.
She also encouraged the students to join the Environment Society and contribute workable solutions to environmental challenges.
The First Lady said advancing digital learning in Nigeria through initiatives such as the RHI/TETFUND ICT Experience Centre remains a priority of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
At the flag-off of the distribution of empowerment items provided by the Anambra State Government to 5,000 beneficiaries, Senator Tinubu announced a financial grant of N100,000 for each beneficiary to further support the intervention.
Governor Soludo, while speaking at the event, described the partnership between the Federal Government and Anambra State as progressive, saying it was helping to build a framework that leaves no one behind.
As a mark of appreciation for her contributions to national development and support for her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu was conferred with the traditional title of Ugoeze of Anambra by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka.
