Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women in the South-East to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that the pains of labour in birthing a new and formidable Nigeria are over.
She made the call at the South-East Zonal APC Women’s Presidential Rally in Enugu, where women from the region expressed support for the Tinubu/Shettima second-term ticket, citing the administration’s vision for the South-East and the country at large.
The rally also featured the highlighting of the administration’s achievements, with participants describing President Tinubu as tested, trusted and deserving of another term.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said Nigeria was approaching a period of prosperity after enduring the pains of economic reforms.
“As the President said, it is time for prosperity. You know, the pain of labour to birth a child is over. It is time for joy and prosperity,” she said.
Senator Tinubu assured Nigerians that the President would not relent in his efforts to transform the country, adding that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a party that kept its promises.
She also highlighted the empowerment initiatives of the Renewed Hope Initiative, noting that women, youths and vulnerable groups had benefited from financial assistance, skills training, implements and equipment.
The First Lady assured that the interventions would continue, as she flagged off the distribution of empowerment items to 5,000 women in Enugu State.
Also speaking at the rally, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah; Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru; the Imo State Governor; and other APC leaders called for support for President Tinubu and APC candidates contesting for the Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly across the South-East.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Wife of the Senate President, the Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Deputy Speaker, the APC National Woman Leader and the Minister of Women Affairs.
Earlier, the First Lady and other women leaders visited the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, led by Igwe Samuel Asadu.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, Igwe Asadu expressed satisfaction with the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration and pledged their support for his re-election.
The traditional rulers also commended the First Lady for her efforts to improve the welfare of women, youths and children through various interventions under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
