…As Renewed Hope Initiative Distributes Food Items to Vulnerable Groups in Edo State

The First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing policies and programs designed to improve the lives of Nigerians.

She made this known in Benin City, the Edo State capital, during the distribution of essential food items to vulnerable groups under the Food Outreach Program of the RHI, part of its Social Investment scope.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President and National Vice Chairman of the RHI, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady noted that the distribution was made possible through the support of an anonymous public-spirited company and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), which has committed to supplying food items monthly to the RHI for onward distribution to Nigerians.

“I am pleased to share with you all that since its inception in 2023, the Renewed Hope Initiative has made significant progress in our efforts to support our people, particularly women and youth, in building a better life for their families,” she said.

“I want to assure you that there will be more activities this year under the five scopes of the RHI—Agriculture, Education, Economic Empowerment, Health, and Social Investment. These programs aim to further complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the First Lady added.

She appealed to beneficiaries not to sell the food items but to use them to support their families.

In his remarks, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her unwavering efforts to support vulnerable groups. He acknowledged the impact of the RHI in addressing the needs of citizens and pledged his government’s continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the RHI.

The Edo State RHI Coordinator, Mrs. Edesili Anani, assured that the food items would be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries across the state.

The Food Outreach Program, a key initiative under RHI’s Social Investment scope, was launched on March 8, 2024, in Abuja, with the aim of providing essential food commodities to vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities.

In December 2024, elderly citizens in Edo State also benefited from the RHI Elderly Citizens Support Program, where 250 senior citizens received ₦250,000 each, various food items, and free health checks. The program was conducted simultaneously across all states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.

Today, the Food Outreach Program continues to serve vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities in Edo State. Next, the program is expected to move to Kwara State, followed by Kogi and Abia States, for similar food distributions.
