Oluremi Tinubu Pledges N100M to Support Arts Education, Urges Greater Investment in Youth Empowerment

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to education and youth development, pledging a donation of N100 million to support arts education initiatives across the country.

Speaking at a charity gala organized by the Spouses of Heads of Missions in Nigeria in support of the Five Cowries Art Education Initiative, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of collective efforts in transforming education, particularly through innovative platforms like the arts.

“I believe that education is a foundation of true national development. That is why the administration of President Bola Tinubu, since inception, and the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) since 2023, have consistently prioritized education and youth empowerment,” she said.

The First Lady called on individuals and organizations to support the Five Cowries Initiative through financial donations, advocacy, and partnerships. “On behalf of RHI, we pledge N100 million to support 5,000 art exhibitions in Nigeria,” she announced.

She praised the Spouses of Heads of Missions for not only standing beside their spouses during diplomatic assignments in Nigeria but also for making meaningful contributions to the country through charitable activities.

The event, held in Abuja, aimed to raise funds for the Five Cowries Art Education Initiative, a non-governmental organization that uses creative arts to improve learning outcomes and promote global awareness among children, especially in underserved communities.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Lucrecia Downer, spouse of the British High Commissioner to Jamaica, highlighted the role of arts in education. “Using arts as an educational tool strengthens learning outcomes and expands access to quality education in rural and underserved areas,” she noted.

Founder of the Five Cowries Initiative, Polly Alakija, also shared the organization’s vision to expand its reach across Africa, using the arts to tackle issues such as conservation, citizenship, and health education.
