Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has appealed to the people of Ondo State to reject vote trading in the upcoming governorship election on Saturday.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Akure on Monday, Obi expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s democracy, describing vote-buying as an act carried out with stolen funds and calling on voters to resist it.
Obi emphasized the need for collective action to rebuild Nigeria’s democracy, saying, “We’re here to campaign for a Nigeria where there’s opportunity for all, where our children are educated, our hospitals are functional, and our citizens are uplifted from poverty.”
He urged Ondo voters to reject money offered by those who “continue to steal more” and instead support efforts to shift Nigeria from a consumption-based to a production-based economy.
At the rally, Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Sola Ebiseni, highlighted the party’s legacy in Ondo State, noting its popularity and past contributions.
“Labour Party is the only party that can truly transform Ondo,” Ebiseni asserted, wearing the party’s signature orange color, which he said represents visible progress across the state.
