On Monday, President Bola Tinubu urged leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State to set aside their differences and work together to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 elections.
He made this appeal at the inaugural lecture series honoring Lam Adesina, former governor of Oyo State (1999-2003), held in Ibadan.
Represented by Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu, Tinubu emphasized the significance of Oyo State to the progressive movement, highlighting that the state must return to the fold in the next election cycle.
He praised Adesina’s legacy as a staunch defender of democracy and a figure of integrity, whose ideals of citizen involvement in governance should inspire APC leaders to unify in their efforts.
Senate Leader and guest lecturer Opeyemi Bamidele, represented by Shuaib Salisu, emphasized the importance of restoring Nigeria’s value system to promote responsibility and integrity among citizens, countering indiscipline and corruption.
Notable attendees included former Ekiti State governors Adeniyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi, Oyo APC’s 2023 governorship candidate Teslim Folarin, former Senate Leader Abdulfatai Buhari, and other prominent figures who gathered to honor Adesina’s contributions as a former legislator, democracy advocate, columnist, and educationist.
Adesina, who passed away in 2012, was known for his role in Nigeria’s transition to democratic rule in 1999.
