Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has charged the leadership of the BAT-KOH Campaign Organisation to focus more attention on undecided voters in Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections to ensure an overwhelming victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Hamzat.
He said this had become necessary to improve on the unimpressive 572,606 votes secured by Tinubu in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election, even as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that the number of eligible voters in the state has increased to 7.2 million.
Tinubu came second behind the then Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who secured 582,454 votes, when the number of registered voters in the state stood at 7,060,195. The number of accredited voters during the election was 1,347,152.
Ikuforiji, in a statement released in Lagos, said what was expected from the campaign organisation led by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro was a massive vote for Tinubu from Lagos, which has the highest number of registered voters in the country, to give the President a comfortable lead at the poll.
According to him, victory for President Tinubu and Dr. Hamzat is achievable if the electioneering campaigns are issue-based, devoid of hate speech, and focused on showcasing the achievements of the President and the economic blueprint of Dr. Kadri Hamzat.
The former Speaker, who was the number three citizen of Lagos State, said the re-election of Tinubu would give him the opportunity to consolidate the bold and courageous reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy for a better Nigeria.
He, however, noted that more work needed to be done in the areas of food security, reducing the cost of living, improving power supply and addressing security challenges in parts of the country.
Ikuforiji urged the Senator Musiliu Obanikoro-led campaign organisation to go beyond organising rallies and visiting various stakeholders by holding town hall meetings where the concerns and aspirations of residents could be heard directly.
The former Speaker also strongly canvassed the provision of the necessary logistics and support to the mobilisation committee that would embark on door-to-door campaigns at the grassroots to harness massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Kadri Hamzat.
