Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a political interest group in the Lagos West Senatorial District of Lagos State, Badagry Division Concerned Indigenes (BDCI) has appealed to the Lagos ruling party, All Progressives Party (APC), to reward its loyalty to the party by ceding the senatorial seat to Badagry Division area.

The group which comprises of politicians, representatives from various quarters and other stakeholders made the appeal today, Tuesday, 10 May, 2022 while reviewing the political state of affairs of the division at an enlarged meeting.

The meeting also decried alleged marginalisation of the area in terms of dividends of democracy.

The group expressed its dissatisfaction in a statement signed by its Chairman, Adekunle Ojoye.

It alleged that the division has not enjoyed fair political representations in government since 1999.

Making specific demands, the group urged the ruling APC to cede the Lagos West Senatorial seat to the Badagry division as a mark of appreciation, adding that the area deserves it by merit owing to its sustained loyalty to the party.

“The truth of the matter is that our division has not been enjoying fair political representations under the APC administration since 1999.

According to the group, since the inception of the present democracy, the Badagry Division have not had any of its son or daughter given the opportunity to represent the Lagos West Senatorial District at the Senate.

“Since 1999, all elected Senators have been from the Ikeja Division, leaving the Badagry division in political limbo,” the group said.

The Badagry Division Indigenes also lamented that the last opportunity they had in 2019 was truncated with the return of the incumbent senator representing the axis from Alimosho, Ikeja division after his failed attempt to contest in Ogun State.

“Badagry division had been fair to the government of Lagos State and APC as a party, but all our requests from this government have been denied. We appealed for Lagos APC to consider Lagos West seat for the Badagry division,” the statement said.
