Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to work tirelessly to ensure the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, as well as the victory of all candidates contesting on the party’s platform.
He also commended the President for his leadership role, which he said has kept the party united, focused, and stronger in Lagos State, while acknowledging the success of the ongoing reforms initiated by the President.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was flanked by his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, and other members of the state executive council, gave the charge during the 2026 State Congress of the APC held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
More than 2,000 delegates from the three senatorial districts in the state attended the congress and returned Cornelius Ojelabi in an affirmative vote as chairman of the 37-member state executive committee of the party.
The governor noted that the congress demonstrated that the party remains supreme in the state and thanked the leadership of the party for sustaining its momentum.
He also appreciated the National Chairman of the party for sending a formidable team to Lagos State to oversee the conduct of the exercise.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, said it was an honour to lead the vibrant team saddled with the responsibility of conducting the important congress to elect leaders who will steer the affairs of the party for another term.
She noted that Lagos remains strategic and important to the future of the party, being the political base of President Tinubu.
According to her, Lagos is also critical due to its large number of registered voters, which will play a vital role in the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Okotete assured that the state congress would be democratic, transparent, and conducted in line with the party’s guidelines, adding that eligibility to contest was guided by the party’s constitution, as only duly registered members were qualified to participate.
In his acceptance speech, Pastor Ojelabi expressed delight that the party remains united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He promised to run an all-inclusive executive with an open-door policy that will promote harmony and unity of purpose, guaranteeing victory for the party at all levels in 2027.
Ojelabi also commended the National Assembly of Nigeria for being a partner in progress with the executive arm in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
Dignitaries at the event included the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; former Deputy Governor, Abiodun Ogunleye; members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council including Tajudeen Olusi, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Anthony Adefuye and Mutiu Are; Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa; former member of the House of Representatives, Yakub Balogun; and former Lagos State Commissioner for Rural Development, Lanre Balogun.
