Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has met with Ghazi Shami, founder and Chief Executive Officer of global music company EMPIRE, during a visit to the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, United States.
Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this in a Facebook post, said he toured EMPIRE’s facility and saw firsthand how the company supports artistes from around the world, including Nigerian music stars Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Asake and Fireboy DML.
The governor described the experience as motivating, noting that his discussion with Shami reinforced the commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian talents to expand their reach and take ownership of their narratives on the global stage.
“I spent time with Ghazi Shami and the team at EMPIRE during my visit to their San Francisco headquarters,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Touring their facility and seeing how they support global talents, including our very own Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Asake and Fireboy DML, was motivating.”
Sanwo-Olu said Lagos would continue to play a key role in driving the global growth of Afrobeats and strengthening the state’s creative economy.
“Lagos continues to power the global sound of Afrobeats. My talk with Ghazi reinforced our commitment to creating the opportunities that help our local talent grow and own their narrative on the world stage,” he said.
The governor added that the future of the creative economy remained promising, assuring young talents of continued support.
“The future of our creative economy is bright and we are backing our young talent every step of the way,” Sanwo-Olu said.
