The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West has launched a renewed mobilisation drive targeting undecided voters and aggrieved party members ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election is a collective responsibility.
The party leaders, who met in Lagos at a stakeholders’ forum, called for unity, reconciliation and grassroots engagement to secure a landslide victory for Tinubu, while warning against a repeat of the low voter turnout recorded in previous elections.
They maintained that the President’s performance and ongoing reforms had earned him another term, urging party members to take the campaign message to every ward, local government and community across the region.
The Director of Stakeholder Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, South-West Zone, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said the political structures across the zone were united in their determination to secure the President’s re-election.
In his welcome address, Fashola charged stakeholders to strengthen relationships within the party and take the message of unity and mobilisation back to their respective constituencies.
He urged aggrieved members to remain hopeful and called on those who emerged victorious in previous party contests to demonstrate magnanimity, stressing that reconciliation was critical to the party’s success.
Fashola, who commended the early arrival of participants at the forum, disclosed plans to appoint spokespersons for each state and establish engagement platforms at the local government and ward levels.
The former Lagos State Governor said the mobilisation drive would extend beyond political caucuses to include artisans, small business owners, trade unions and other groups capable of influencing the electoral outcome.
He also announced plans to visit the six states in the zone to engage party structures, resolve outstanding grievances and escalate issues requiring the intervention of the national leadership.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, declared that the South-West was committed to ensuring that Tinubu completes his eight-year tenure.
He urged residents to reciprocate the President’s support for the region through their votes, citing infrastructural development and government policies that had contributed to socio-economic growth.
Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko said the Yoruba people were satisfied with Tinubu’s performance so far, while acknowledging the need to address existing challenges to secure a better future for the country.
Mimiko identified the resolution of the ASUU strike and efforts to democratise access to tertiary education as significant achievements that had strengthened the President’s standing in the region.
He appealed to party members to bury their grievances in the interest of Tinubu’s re-election, adding that the President’s pursuit of state police demonstrated courage in tackling insecurity.
Former Ekiti State Governor Otunba Niyi Adebayo also called for unity and collective action, assuring members that their contributions to the party’s electoral success would be recognised.
The Secretary of Stakeholder Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, South-West Zone, Senator Fatai Buhari, said the task of securing victory would be easier if all members worked together.
The Secretary of the Governance Advisory Council, Alhaji Mutiu Are, expressed optimism that the resolutions reached at the forum would be implemented promptly.
Ten delegates from each of the six South-West states, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo, attended the stakeholders’ forum.
