The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has joined the global community to celebrate women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, commending their resilience and contributions to societal development.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described women as the backbone of families, communities and the economy, noting that their roles remain central to building a prosperous and inclusive society.
Oladejo said the party takes pride in the deliberate policies and sustained efforts of successive APC-led administrations in the state aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.
He explained that over the years, the state government has implemented programmes and reforms designed to promote gender inclusion, protect women’s rights and encourage their participation in governance and economic development.
According to him, Lagos has consistently maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving in various leadership positions including commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and judges of the High Court.
The APC spokesman also highlighted economic empowerment initiatives targeted at women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans, noting that thousands have benefited from microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes and cooperative support structures introduced by APC-led administrations in the state.
He added that women operating in markets, small businesses and the creative industry have particularly gained from these interventions, which he said have helped strengthen household incomes and boost the state’s economy.
Oladejo further stated that the state government has continued to prioritise policies that protect women from abuse, expand access to healthcare and promote girl-child education through various social intervention programmes.
He noted that women in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have also benefited from training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives backed by the government.
While congratulating women across the state and the country, Oladejo reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos APC to policies that promote women’s participation in governance, strengthen economic opportunities and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to achieve her aspirations.
