The Eti-Osa Local Government has marked the first anniversary of the administration of Executive Chairman, Omo’Oba (Dr.) Adeola Alimot Adetoro, with the disbursement of N50 million empowerment grants to traders, artisans, small business owners, women, youths and other vulnerable residents across the council.
Adetoro, who disclosed this during the anniversary celebration held at the council secretariat on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, said the initiative was part of the administration’s HEYIGA Agenda and its commitment to using governance to directly improve the lives of residents.
According to her, the administration assumed office with the conviction that leadership goes beyond occupying public office to touching lives, engaging communities, addressing challenges, creating opportunities and building a better future for the people.
She described the N50 million grant as an investment in the people rather than charity, saying it was designed to help beneficiaries expand their businesses, support their families and contribute to the economic growth of Eti-Osa.
Adetoro said the administration had also recorded achievements in healthcare, infrastructure, education and youth development within its first year in office.
She listed some of the health interventions to include nutritional food packs for pregnant women, hypertension and diabetes screening, measles-rubella vaccination and the commissioning of a new health facility at Lafiaji.
She also disclosed that the administration had commenced the construction of another health centre in Ikota, describing the projects as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the local government.
On infrastructure, the chairman said three completed road projects were commissioned during the week, including Ogunyemi Street in Itedo, Ibrahim Atere Road in Gbara and Engr. Murphy Road in Igbo Efon.
In education, she said the council had supported students, parents and young people through the distribution of back-to-school packs, provision of free GCE forms and a spelling bee competition, while plans were underway for a functional e-library in Eti-Osa.
“These projects prove that we are not just making promises; we are keeping them,” Adetoro said, assuring residents that the administration would do more in its second year.
She pledged that the council would focus on constructing more roads, renovating schools, empowering more women and youths and ensuring that the benefits of governance reached communities across Eti-Osa.
The chairman urged beneficiaries of the empowerment grant to make judicious use of the funds and invest them in productive ventures capable of generating sustainable income and employment.
She also expressed appreciation to her Vice Chairman, Hon. Idowu Adeola Badru, councillors, management and staff of the council, party leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders for their support during the administration’s first year.
One of the apex leaders in Eti-Osa, Hon. Shade Mondiu, and the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Noheem Adams, commended the chairman for prioritising people-oriented programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Former council chairman, Hon. Saheed Bankole, who presented cheques to some of the beneficiaries, urged them to use the empowerment funds responsibly and ensure that the opportunity translates into sustainable economic benefits.
Some beneficiaries of the N50 million empowerment grant expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the funds would enable them to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
They added that increased business activities would create opportunities to employ more people and contribute to the socio-economic development of Eti-Osa Local Government.
