President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigeria’s Super Falcons to finish strong and bring home a historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title as they face host nation Morocco in the final match of the 2024 tournament in Rabat tonight.
In a rousing message from the State House, the President lauded the Falcons for their unbeaten run, outstanding performance, and exemplary sportsmanship, describing their journey as a source of national pride.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, we are rooting for you and praying for your resounding success tonight, as you strive to achieve the crowning accomplishment of lifting a record tenth continental title,” Tinubu said.
He expressed admiration for the team’s unity and compassion, especially their visit to South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado following the semi-final, calling it “a reflection of our shared humanity and sisterhood.”
President Tinubu also highlighted the Super Falcons’ dominance in the tournament, noting their flawless group stage, solid knockout victories, and a defensive record that saw them concede only one goal en route to the final.
To demonstrate national solidarity, the President has dispatched a delegation to Rabat, including the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.
He further thanked the players’ families, coaches, fans, and the Nigerian community in Morocco for their unwavering support.
“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home,” Tinubu declared, expressing optimism ahead of the final showdown.
The Super Falcons are aiming to extend their record with a 10th WAFCON title, cementing Nigeria’s status as the most successful team in African women’s football.
