The Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, marking 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in the country.

In a statement released to commemorate June 12, Hon. Akindele paid glowing tribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other heroes of democracy whose sacrifices contributed immensely to the sustenance of democratic rule in Nigeria.

She noted that President Tinubu played a significant role in the struggle for democracy and remains one of the leading figures whose commitment helped shape the democratic freedoms Nigerians enjoy today.

She also honoured the memories of the June 12 martyrs and pro-democracy activists who paid great sacrifices in the nation’s quest for democratic governance.

According to the council chairman, President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated courage and determination in addressing some of Nigeria’s longstanding economic and structural challenges.

“President Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians because he has taken bold steps to tackle issues that have hindered the nation’s growth for decades. His economic reforms have improved revenue allocations to states, enabling sub-national governments to execute critical capital projects and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

“He is laying the foundation for lasting reforms, including efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s security architecture and restructuring key sectors of the economy. Nigerians should assess his administration based on the tangible steps being taken to address national challenges rather than the criticisms of political opponents,” she stated.

Hon. Akindele also commended the National Assembly for passing the State Police Bill, describing the development as a major milestone toward enhancing security across the country.

She expressed optimism that the creation of state police would strengthen grassroots security, improve intelligence gathering, and provide more effective responses to emerging security threats across states and local communities.

The council chairman further called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward securing the safe and unconditional release of the kidnapped students and teachers from Ogbomoso, stressing that the safety of citizens must remain a top priority.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us continue to pray for peace, unity, and progress in our country. We must also support our security agencies and government at all levels in their efforts to protect lives and property and ensure a more prosperous future for all Nigerians,” she added.

Hon. Akindele reiterated her commitment to delivering quality governance and meaningful development to the people of Mosan-Okunola LCDA in line with the ideals of democracy and good governance.
