…Says ADC has no better alternative to APC, vows NDC ticket won’t withdraw
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, accusing the party’s campaign team of resorting to “mischief” and unnecessary attacks against the NDC presidential ticket.
Kwankwaso, who is the running mate to NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, said the ADC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) should concentrate on defending the competence and credibility of its candidate instead of targeting him, Obi and the NDC.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Kwankwaso described recent attacks by the ADC campaign team as “unnecessary and unhelpful”, particularly claims that the NDC ticket was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or might withdraw from the presidential race in favour of the ADC candidate.
He challenged the ADC campaign council to focus instead on addressing what he described as “serious allegations” made against Atiku by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
“The ADC-PCC would be better served directing its energy toward rebutting the serious allegations levelled against their candidate by the Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, instead of targeting me and His Excellency Peter Obi,” Kwankwaso said.
The former Kano State governor also dismissed suggestions that the NDC would step down for the ADC ahead of the election, describing the claims as an attempt to mislead NDC supporters.
He declared that the NDC presidential ticket would not withdraw its candidature for the ADC or any other political party.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party,” he said.
Kwankwaso insisted that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates, stressing that there was “no possibility or reason” for the ticket to withdraw from the presidential race.
He further dismissed the ADC as incapable of providing a better alternative to the APC-led government, which he accused of failing Nigerians.
“The APC-led government has failed Nigerians. The ADC offers no better alternative,” Kwankwaso said.
He maintained that the NDC remained the country’s “most formidable and viable opposition party”, arguing that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket offered Nigerians a credible alternative with broad support across the North and South.
According to him, the ticket is focused on uniting the country and tackling insecurity, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and economic challenges.
Kwankwaso urged NDC supporters and other Nigerians sympathetic to the party to remain committed to its campaign, declaring: “Nigeria will be OK.”
