The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV), a registered non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, has unveiled its news and advocacy arm, CAIDOV Justice Watch, to strengthen its campaign against injustice and domestic violence.
The unveiling was announced in Lagos by the Executive Director of CAIDOV, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, who said the new media platform was established to bridge the gap between victims of injustice and the wider public through investigative journalism and community advocacy.
Soloki said the initiative was informed by the need to ensure that victims whose cases might otherwise remain unheard have a platform to tell their stories and seek redress.
“For years, CAIDOV as an NGO has been intervening in cases of domestic violence and injustice. But we discovered that injustice thrives in silence. Many victims suffer because no one hears them,” he said.
According to him, CAIDOV Justice Watch will serve as the organisation’s media arm, with a mandate to investigate, expose and publish cases of alleged oppression while following up on reported cases until appropriate resolutions are achieved.
Soloki explained that while CAIDOV remains the parent NGO legally recognised to focus on injustice and domestic violence, CAIDOV Justice Watch would concentrate on media coverage, investigative reporting and public advocacy.
“Other NGOs write reports. We will publish stories that the nation must read. Our press crew will be where injustice happens, from police stations to homes to communities,” he said.
The new platform is expected to investigate and report cases of domestic violence, alleged police brutality, landlord harassment and other forms of oppression against vulnerable members of society.
It will also amplify the voices of victims, follow up cases from initial reports to resolution and promote accountability among individuals and institutions exercising public or private authority.
CAIDOV urged members of the public experiencing any form of injustice or domestic violence to contact its justice desk for intervention.
The organisation also invited members of the public to support the initiative as volunteers, pro-bono lawyers, counsellors, donors and media partners.
Members of the public can reach CAIDOV Justice Watch through caidovjusticewatch@gmail.com or its hotline, 08027829888.
Soloki said the editorial mantra of the new media arm was: “We must not allow impunity unchecked in our clime.”
