The Executive Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, has launched a two day Train the Trainers programme aimed at strengthening sports development and equipping local coaches with modern knowledge and practical skills.
The programme, themed “Equipping Our Coaches,” commenced on August 19, 2026, at the Orile Agege Primary School Hall, Lagos, and brought together more than 100 coaches from various sporting disciplines across Orile Agege and neighbouring communities.
The initiative is part of the administration’s efforts to promote youth development, talent discovery and community advancement through sports.
Participants received training from experienced resource persons and sports professionals, including Ayo Filani, Ayobami Joseph Okanlawon, Fatai Akande Smith, Oladipo Liadi and Taiwo Salako.
Through interactive sessions, practical demonstrations and knowledge sharing activities, the programme is expected to improve coaching standards, promote professionalism and equip coaches with the skills needed to nurture the next generation of athletes.
Speaking during the programme, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in initiatives that promote excellence, create opportunities for young people and strengthen community participation in sports.
The Chairman urged the participating coaches to remain dedicated and give their best towards the development of sports in Orile Agege, assuring them of his continued support both within and outside the country.
The Chairman of the Orile Agege Sports Council, Mr. Liadi Oladipo, also assured the Executive Chairman of the team’s commitment to transforming the sports sector in the LCDA, leveraging his wealth of experience in the sports industry.
Oladipo commended the Executive Chairman and his team for their support, particularly during previous sporting activities organised by the Sports Council, including the “Run for Asiwaju” and “Fight for Asiwaju” programmes.
The two day event was attended by members of the Executive Committee and the management team of the council.
Certificates of attendance were subsequently presented to the participating coaches who completed the training.
The Train the Trainers programme is designed to empower coaches, develop sporting talent and build a stronger sports culture across Orile Agege. The council said it expects participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme towards the continued growth and transformation of sports within the local community.
