At 82, Senator Anthony Adefuye is being celebrated not merely for the milestone he has attained, but for a life marked by service, generosity, mentorship and an enduring commitment to the upliftment of others.
The celebration of the respected elder statesman has evolved into a week long series of activities bringing together members of his family, political associates, friends, business partners, admirers and well wishers from different walks of life.
For a man whose influence has extended beyond his immediate circle, the occasion has assumed a significance far greater than an ordinary birthday celebration. Over the decades, Senator Adefuye has distinguished himself as a mentor and philanthropist, offering support, encouragement and opportunities to many people, particularly during periods of difficulty.
His contributions to individuals and communities have earned him the affection of many, making the 82nd birthday celebration a gathering of people whose lives have, in one way or another, been touched by his generosity and leadership.
The week long programme has also reflected some of Baba Adefuye’s enduring interests, including sports, intellectual engagement, family and faith.
A major highlight is the final of a football tournament organised as part of the birthday activities. The competition featured preliminary rounds involving notable youth football teams from across Lagos State, with the final scheduled for August 12. Beyond the sporting excitement, the initiative underscores Senator Adefuye’s appreciation of youth development, healthy living and community engagement.
On August 14, family members, friends, political associates and other dignitaries will converge on the Adefuye residence in Lekki Phase 1 for a grand reception in honour of the celebrant.
The celebrations will continue on August 15 with an African Watch lecture at the Naval Hall, Dockyard, Ikoyi. The intellectual engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on important issues and broaden their understanding of matters of contemporary relevance.
For Senator Adefuye, however, the most profound aspect of the celebration will come on Sunday, August 16, when he and members of his family gather at St. Dennis Catholic Church, Akoka, Lagos, for a thanksgiving service.
The thanksgiving will provide an opportunity for the celebrant and his family to express gratitude to God for the gift of life, good health, family unity and the many blessings that have accompanied his journey through 82 remarkable years.
As the week long celebration draws to its spiritual climax, the occasion offers more than an opportunity to honour an elder statesman. It is also a moment to celebrate a life of impact and the enduring value of giving back to society.
Friends, associates, admirers and members of the public are invited to join the Adefuye family at the thanksgiving service as they celebrate a remarkable milestone and give thanks for the life and legacy of Senator Anthony Adefuye.
