The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting private sector involvement across agricultural value chains to ensure food security, accessibility, and affordability for residents across the metropolis.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, made this known during a Facility Tour and Partnership Drive at Demiller Industries/Farm Junction in the Isheri Estate Community. She also commended the recent distribution of tractors and other farm inputs by the Federal Government, noting that various strategies are being adopted to tackle challenges in food production and distribution nationwide.

Olusanya emphasized that since Lagos relies heavily on food supplies from other parts of the country, the state government will continue to support private players in the sector to ensure steady food availability at affordable prices for residents.

Describing the growth of Demiller Industries as a testament to what young people in Nigeria can achieve when provided with a conducive environment, Olusanya stated:

“Their journey reflects how the food system is interconnected — from processing to distribution and retail. This supports what our ministry has been advocating: agriculture is not just about production and processing; the marketing aspect is equally crucial. What we are witnessing here is the full cycle in action.”

She expressed satisfaction that Demiller Industries/Farm Junction has demonstrated the objectives of the Agrinnovation Club by collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure consistent food availability through diverse value chains for long-term mutual benefits.

Olusanya also stressed the vast opportunities in the food industry and encouraged Nigerian youths to see agriculture as an attractive, self-reliant career path.

On his part, CEO of Demiller Industries/Farm Junction, Mr. Yinka Omogoye, traced the roots of the company to the Ajah area of Lagos, explaining that he was inspired by the need to reduce bottlenecks in moving produce from farms to processing and production centers.

He said the company’s innovations have helped reduce food prices while ensuring the distribution of hygienic food items across the state.

According to Omogoye, Demiller Industries Limited was established in 2013 to address the issue of wasted farm produce due to a lack of off-takers. Today, the company processes 20 tonnes of groundnut and 25 tonnes of maize daily.

Also speaking at the event, HRM Oba Engr. Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade, the Olofin of Isheri and Adimula of the Awori Kingdoms, commended Farm Junction’s strides in job creation and value generation.

He assured the management of the company of the Kingdom’s full support and noted that the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had recently emphasized the need for more industries to address unemployment in the state.

Having started from Ajah in 2020, the company now operates five branches in Ibeju-Lekki, Isheri, Ogudu, and Agege areas of Lagos State.
