The 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), on Monday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which reportedly lasted from 2 pm to 4 pm, has triggered widespread speculation about Jandor’s next political move following his recent resignation from the PDP.
Jandor’s Political Journey: A Return to APC on the Horizon?
Jandor, who previously defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP in pursuit of his gubernatorial ambition, faced internal party crises and last-minute betrayals that weakened his campaign.
Despite branding himself as the strongest opposition candidate, he finished third in the election with 62,449 votes, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (APC) won with 762,134 votes, and Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour came second with 312,329 votes.
Earlier this month, he officially resigned from the PDP, citing indiscipline and anti-party activitiesas reasons for his exit. He criticized the party’s leadership, stating:
“It has become evident that the leadership of the PDP, both at the national and state levels, has failed to uphold its principles.”
He also hinted at aligning with a new political platform, declaring:
“We will consult widely and then take the decision to collapse our structure into another platform. The major thing now is that we have left the PDP.”
What’s Next After Meeting Tinubu?
While details of the high-stakes meeting remain undisclosed, political insiders suggest it may be a reconciliation effort paving the way for Jandor’s return to the APC or a strategic alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adding to the intrigue, Jandor recently held separate meetings with:
• Former Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Minna
• Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
• Top officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)
These engagements have deepened speculation over his next move and potential political alignment.
