A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Democracy and Good Governance Watch Initiative, has praised the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Lekan Fatodu, for transforming the commission within a few months of his appointment.

In a statement titled “Lekan Fatodu: Brilliance and Visionary Leadership at Lagos State Sports Commission,” and signed by Comrades Gbenga Soloki and Nelson Ekujumi on behalf of the group’s leadership, the NGO commended Mr. Fatodu for his exceptional achievements. The statement, dated Monday, December 30, 2024, highlights his dedication to rejuvenating sports in Lagos State.

The group noted that since his appointment, Mr. Fatodu has prioritized the development of sports across the state, including in schools, leaving no doubt about his capability to deliver results.

Fatodu was also named the ‘Man of the Year 2024’ by the organization for his outstanding contributions.

The statement praised Mr. Fatodu for implementing mechanisms to ensure the efficient use of Lagos State’s sporting facilities, plugging revenue leakages, and increasing income for the commission.

“From a modest N800,000 in monthly revenue from the use of the commission’s sporting facilities, Mr. Fatodu has achieved a remarkable 475% increase, raising revenues to N4.6 million in his first month in office. By March 2024, just his second month, the revenue had soared to N17 million,” the statement read.

The group acknowledged that under his leadership, funds generated from the state’s sporting facilities are being reinvested to maintain and upgrade these facilities. This, they said, has ensured better accountability and reduced reliance on external funding for sports development in Lagos State.

They also highlighted Mr. Fatodu’s hands-on approach, noting his unwavering commitment to the success of Lagos’ sports teams. “At the last games in Delta, he was physically present throughout the tournament to cheer the team to victory, a testament to his dedication,” they remarked.

The statement concluded by applauding Mr. Fatodu for his focus and determination:

“Mr. Lekan Fatodu has shown exemplary leadership in repositioning sports in Lagos State for the collective good of all. It is only a matter of time before his plans fully bear fruit.

“Once again, we congratulate and commend Mr. Lekan Fatodu for his outstanding contributions and visionary leadership in sports development in Lagos State.”
