An all women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives has expressed excitement over the ready availability of the much required White Paper over the collapse of the 21 storey building in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State on November 1, 2021.
Expressing the excitement in Lagos Friday was the Convener of the NGO, Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, who commended the Toyin Ayinde-led Panel for the timely availability of the vital document, stressing the need to celebrate the development because of the far reaching effect it would have on those involved and affected by the sad accident.
According to the lawyer cum activist more exciting and interesting is the 26 recommendations out of 28 the governor has accepted to implement saying, Sanwo-Olu and his team have demonstrated their respect for sanctity of human lives and further endeared the administration more into the hearts of the people of Lagos and beyond.
Against the forgoing, the NGO through its boss therefor is of the conviction that, the next step expected of the administration is to mandate the Ministry of Justice under the supervision of the Attorney-General of the State and Commissioner of Justice to put a machinery in motion to expedite actions on the implementation of the accepted recommendations.
While pointing out that delay and complacency could be counter-productive, the woman legal practitioner detests a situation where the euphoria occasioned by the timely issuance of the White Paper would be die down without giving the governor’s penchance for hitting the ground running would be jeopardized.
As it stands now, the NGO boss observed that, “Sanwo-Olu would be hitching to start the implementations of the recommendations without delay, saying, from the way and manner he conducts the affairs of the state, no one affected by the unfortunate incident would be left uncared for, either dead or alive.
She therefore stressed the need for maximum support and unflinching cooperation with the governor in the onerous task of moving the state to the Eldorado, reminding that the duty and responsibility of state building is a collective one and not sole responsibility of the government alone.
