The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, widely known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday night after six armed men reportedly invaded his residence in Surulere, Lagos.
Fortunately, the union leader was not at home at the time of the attack.
According to sources, the assailants arrived at his Gbadamosi Close residence around 11:00 p.m., where they met only the security guard. The guard was tied up while the intruders ransacked the house in a bid to locate Tafa Sego.
It was gathered that the NURTW Chairman had earlier left for an event alongside a few associates who had visited him earlier in the day.
The incident has sparked tension and concern within the Surulere community, as residents fear a possible recurrence of such a violent attack.
Officers from the Area C Police Command reportedly visited the scene, conducted a preliminary assessment, and interrogated the security guard, who is said to have provided useful details to aid the ongoing investigation.
A close associate of Alhaji Tafa Sego confirmed that the union leader is deeply unsettled by the incident, especially given his ongoing efforts to implement reforms aimed at improving the welfare of NURTW members.
The associate further disclosed that Tafa Sego has assured full cooperation with security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
