The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for renewed commitment to maternal and newborn health, describing it as a moral duty and a critical step towards achieving sustainable development.
In a statement released in commemoration of World Health Day 2025, which is themed βHealthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,β the First Lady stressed the need for increased attention to the wellbeing of mothers and newborns, noting that preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth continue to claim the lives of women and children daily.
βEvery day, far too many women and newborns lose their lives due to preventable complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.β
βNo mother should have to risk her life to bring a child into the world, and no newborn should be denied a fair chance at survival,β she stated.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that building a healthier nation starts with ensuring safe deliveries and nurturing environments for children to grow and thrive.
βOn this World Health Day, let us all strive to create a world where mothers can safely give birth and children can live healthy lives to reach their full potential,β she urged.
The First Lady also extended heartfelt appreciation to health workers across the country, acknowledging their selfless dedication and pivotal role in safeguarding public health.
