He is indeed an enigma Hon. Segun Olulade is a very compassionate person. He is a team player; always looking very cheerful. These qualities will not be enough and suitable to describe Hon. Segun Olulade for he is a man of the people. However, these attributes become more scintillating if combined with his decency when it comes to respecting individual rights and privileges. Undoubtedly, Hon. Segun Olulade aptly exemplifies these traits in his sojourn of life.
Segun popularly referred to as Eleniyan was born to the family of Olulade at Ejinrin in the ancient city of Epe town of Lagos State on 20th July 1971. As a child of a humble beginning whose parents valued education, Segun had his early education in Epe, with a memorable childhood associated with water-front life. He proceeded to bag a degree in Economics at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
Olulade had a brief stint in the banking industry briefly but his passion for environmental preservation led him to take up volunteering service in waste packing and disposal. He later diversified from his core education discipline to business in the environment, which he discovered while volunteering as a waste collector to promote habitable and decent environment in Lagos.
As an enterprising personality, Segun ventured into politics having succeeded in the waste management business. He placed himself under the mentorship of his role model Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Nigeria’s President and broke jinx to get people’s mandate to become the first person to represent his constituency two times consecutively in the parliament. This is not surprising as Hon Olulade has so many political affiliations and networks.
An economist, waste management expert and politician, Segun Olulade has broad skills in administration, human resource management, policy development, project implementation and public service. He possesses high skills in resource management, environmental preservation, legislative prowess between governments and the people, conflict resolution and management, community development advisor, publishing and team leadership.
He is passionate about giving and providing opportunities for youths. He loves to assist youths who do not have influential personalities around them that could support their talents and potential for leadership. He is nick-named ‘Eleniyan’ for his generosity which endears him to the people especially the less privileged, the poor, the widow, children and unreached people in the society. He is also passionate about community service; he was the Founder/ President Ejinrin Youth Development Union and Founder/National President of Ejinrin Students’ Union Government.
As a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the enigmatic persona displayed uncommon love for his constituents. This quality enabled him to secure a second term ticket which positioned him as a pacesetter in that regard.
At the State House of Assembly, he was the House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity in the 7th Assembly and upon his re-election, Olulade chaired the Committee on Health Services. As the head of the two committees, Olulade showcased excellent performances, a laudable feat jealously guarded.
Eleniyan was the mover of the first motion in indigenous language and pioneer of motion compelling the teaching of indigenous language in all primary and secondary schools in Lagos State. Similarly, he was the mover of the motion for immortalization of the late Afrobeat Legend and social crusader, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Nonetheless, he is the first lawmaker in Nigeria to start an informative radio programme for constituents’ feedback and engagement efforts. He is the founder of Eleniyancares Leadership Foundation which partners with the London School of Economics in England and the Leadership Institute Virginia in the United States of America.
Segun bagged Honorary Citizen of the State of Georgia in the United States of America and he is the receiver of the Young Politician Award of Global Excellence Publication 2016 and also received the Special Gold Award at the 2020 Fellowship Hall of Fame of the Chartered Institute of Public Resources Management Politics (Ghana), among many others.
He became a global standard publisher with his debut award-winning book titled ‘Eleniyan Perspectives.’
Having recognized his exceptional performance as a legislator as well as his unwavering role on media and Publicity, correspondents covering the Lagos State House of Assembly conferred on Olulade the Outstanding Lawmaker of the Year award in 2012, the Legislative Excellence award in the same year, and the Most Media-Friendly Lawmaker in 2015.
As a result of his contributions to human capital development, Eleniyan has received over 100 awards. He has also been honoured as an Honourary Citizen of Georgia by the State of Georgia in the United States In February 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed Olulade as Executive Director, Customer Centricity and Marketing at Galaxy Backbone Limited. The position, he currently occupies.
Hon Olulade is a lover of people and is always interested in catering to the interests of the downtrodden. He is a politician who is supportive and stands tall to the admiration of his constituents and the general public.
