Authorities at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area has outlawed the use of charcoal from Jan 1st 2024 saying residents should rather embrace the use of cooking Gas.
The Council chairman, Muibi Folawiyo said the ban on the use of charcoal was to forestal avoidable fire outbreaks that destroy lives and property within the council area.
The council boss read this riot act to residents at the eleventh edition of the Community Market/Poverty Alleviation programme for residents of the council.
He said the council decided to embark on free distribution of cooking Gas to demonstrate courage to residents adding more would be provided in December.
Hon Muibi Folawiyo reiterates the commitment to bring succour to residents of Lagos Isalnd East LCDA based on his electioneeing promises.
According to him, the state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has continued to lay the foundation for Lagos as Smart City with the recent inauguration of the Blue rail line project and Yaba flyover for the Red rail line.
He however urged residents to continue to live in peace and be alive to their own responsibility to the council in voluntary payments of levies and taxes.
Some beneficiaries at the community market commended the council for priotizing food which is one of the basic needs of life.
Among food itmes sold at affordable prices includes: Rice, Yam, Beans, Gari, Egg, Palm oil, red oil, live chicken and Noodles.
