The Executive Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to foment trouble during the forthcoming Yuletide season in the area, urging them to have a rethink or face the full consequences of their actions.

He assured residents of adequate security for a hitch-free celebration, adding that the two local government areas have mapped out comprehensive strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents and fun seekers before, during and after the festivities.

The Chairman gave this assurance while featuring live on Rainbow 94.1 FM’s radio programme, GBÁGÈDÉ ÒRÒ, hosted by Opeyemi Makinde.

Hon. Folawiyo commended Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for sustaining the legacy of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, through which several Hilux patrol vehicles were recently distributed to security agencies to enhance effective policing across the state during the Yuletide season.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the implementation of financial autonomy for local governments, which he said has translated into improved project delivery across councils nationwide.

According to him, the council’s 2026 Budget will be fully implemented across all sectors as presented, while urging residents to serve as watchdogs in ensuring transparency and accountability in the execution of the fiscal plan.

Hon. Folawiyo disclosed that the 2026 Budget presented today, makes provision for a Renewed Hope Conditional Transfer scheme, through which small-scale entrepreneurs and petty traders will receive monthly support to boost their businesses.

He further noted that 2026 will witness renewed infrastructural development, particularly in standard road construction, listing Anikantamo, Olusi, Inabiri and Evance roads among those slated for reconstruction. He urged residents to closely monitor contractors and promptly raise the alarm where necessary.

On the forthcoming Eyo Festival scheduled for December 27, the Chairman stated that all arrangements have been concluded to receive visitors, including those in the diaspora, for a grand Yuletide celebration. He, however, advised residents and visitors to strictly adhere to the rules guiding the festival, especially regulations on photography.

Highlighting achievements recorded within the first 100 days of his second term in office, Hon. Folawiyo listed the commissioning of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Shopping Mall, road projects, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights at Okesuna, Campos and Ajele.

He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining the popular monthly subsidised community market initiative, describing it as a people-centred programme aimed at easing the cost of living for residents.
