A non-governmental organization, (NGO), the Youth Advocacy Initiative, has expressed the delight over the building of a large rehabilitation centre in Lagos State to tackle drug abuse, praising the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his youth oriented programmes.
Convener of the NGO, Comrade Adekunle Akinde, speaking on behalf of the organization Monday in Lagos, said, the project would address the consequences of drug abuse on the society which impacts, he regretted was assuming disturbing dimension across the country, agreeing with the government that the project would also address the issues of increasing victims of drug abuse in the state.
Dropping the hint of the project, was the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) & Investment, Mrs Solape Hammond while unveiling the official launch of a platform, tagged “Lagos SDGs Youth Alliance” designed to engage youth in productive ventures at a press briefing in Lagos.
While expressing displeasure of the effects the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in the country, the NGO praised the state government for realising the menace and taking proactive measures to confront the impacts on the society headlong, describing the step as one expected from a respoisible and responsive administration like Sanwo-Olu’s.
Building in Lagos, one of the largest rehabilitation centre in Africa, the NGO viewed it as one of Sanwo-Olu’s attribute of being an administrator working hard to put the state on the world map of rapidly developing society, admitting that, “ truly, the development is aimed at repositioning the broad tendencies of youths for common good with broad engagement with the Government.”
The NGO recalled that, the project is not the first in Sanwo-Olu’s strive to prepare the youth in the state for leadership position in the country, reminding that, it is on record that his administration has established a Youth Academy for Leadership Training, describing the governor as a forward looking administrator.t
Akinde said, the current project under discussion has the tendency to ensure building the youth towards becoming the real leader of tomorrow in the state in particular and the whole country as a whole, expressing the delight that, at every corner, Sanwo-Olu has left nobody in doubt that his commitment toward development of the youth as leaders of tomorrow is intact.
The NGO boss therefore expressed the need for the youth to always avail themselves with all the youth oriented programmes of Sanwo-Olu for their future betterment, just as he urged the good people of the state not to relent in giving the governor the maximum support he needs to continue to do more for the state.
