The police have recorded a breakthrough with the re-arrest of some LGBTQ suspects who initially escaped from a residence in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
It will be recalled that on September 10, 2023, operatives stormed the residence following a tip-off that it was being used for same-sex gatherings. About 20 women were reportedly in attendance at the time, with several fleeing during the operation while others were arrested and later granted bail.
Providing an update on the investigation, the officer handling the case, Inspector Kamoru Sanni, said police had kept the location under surveillance for an extended period before the raid. According to Sanni, investigations have continued and some of the suspects who were at large have now been re-arrested for prosecution and are assisting investigators with useful information.
He however noted that three suspects have violated their bail conditions. “Those arrested will be charged to court where appropriate. However, three individuals connected to the case reportedly jumped bail. We are determined to pursue the matter and ensure that all those involved are brought before the law,” Sanni said.
The police identified the three wanted persons as Adelaide Gladys, Kafayat Adeleke, and Esther Jones. Sources close to the matter disclosed that while about five other suspects are still reportedly at large, efforts are being intensified to track all those connected to the September gathering.
The police have therefore appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in locating the wanted individuals, assuring that those in custody will face further investigation and possible prosecution.
