The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major breakthrough in its nationwide offensive against terrorism and kidnapping, arresting three suspected terrorists, rescuing multiple kidnapped victims, and recovering a cache of arms, ammunition, and over N10 million in cash.
Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Sunday that the operations were executed in coordination with local vigilante groups across several states, showcasing the force’s intensified drive against insecurity.
“In a series of successful operations, the Nigeria Police Force has demonstrated its resolve in ensuring public safety and combating all forms of criminal activities,” Adejobi said.
One of the most notable busts occurred in Imo State, where police operatives raided a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout in Okigwe LGA in the early hours of April 17. A fierce gunfight ensued, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent (21), Ugwu Ikenna (31), and Ofor Kasarachi (37).
Recovered at the scene were an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges, laptops, mobile phones, and N10.3 million — believed to be ransom money from kidnapping activities.
In a separate rescue mission in Edo State, police foiled a kidnapping attempt involving 10 students traveling to Babcock University for the GYC Africa Conference. One of the kidnappers was neutralized, and all victims were freed unhurt. Two more kidnapped individuals were rescued on April 18 from the Oluoke community.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to public safety.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property while respecting human rights. We will not relent in our fight against crime,” the statement emphasized.
