The media community in Lagos has been thrown into mourning following the death of Hajia Naimat Akinreti, wife of the former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Dr. Qasim Akinreti.
In separate condolence messages, the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Lagos State Chapter, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to the Akinreti family and the journalism fraternity.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. AbdulKabir Garba, the MMPN commiserated with Dr. Akinreti and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
“We take solace in the words of Allah: ‘And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.’ (Quran 2:155),” the statement read.
The group prayed to Allah to forgive Hajia Naimat’s shortcomings, grant her Aljanah Firdaus, and give the family the strength to bear the loss. It also urged members and the Muslim community to continue praying for the Akinreti family during this difficult time.
Similarly, the NUJ Lagos Council, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, and Secretary, Mr. Tunde Olalere, expressed heartfelt sympathy to Dr. Akinreti, recalling his notable contributions to journalism development in Lagos.
The Union described the late Hajia Naimat as a woman remembered for her kindness, support, and devotion to family and community values.
“The Council shares deeply in Dr. Akinreti’s grief and prays that the Almighty will comfort him and grant the departed soul eternal rest,” the NUJ statement stated.
