Euracare Multispecialist Hospital has expressed deep sympathy to renowned author Chimamanda Adichie and her family following the death of their son, describing the loss as profound and unimaginable.
In a press statement signed by its management, the hospital conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, noting that the loss of a child is beyond words and offering prayers and support during what it described as a deeply distressing period.
While empathising with the family, Euracare said it found it necessary to clarify what it described as inaccuracies in some reports currently circulating in the public space regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
According to the statement, Euracare is a reputable facility for complex medical care, led by an internationally trained and experienced clinical team. The hospital explained that the child, who was critically ill, was referred to its facility for specific diagnostic procedures after receiving treatment at two paediatric centres.
It stated that upon the patient’s arrival, its medical team immediately commenced care in line with established clinical protocols and internationally accepted medical standards, including the administration of sedation where clinically indicated.
The hospital added that it worked collaboratively with external medical teams, as recommended by the family, and ensured that all necessary clinical support was provided in the course of the patient’s care.
“Despite these concerted efforts, the patient sadly passed away less than 24 hours after presenting at our facility,” the statement said.
Euracare disclosed that it has commenced a detailed investigation in line with its clinical governance standards and best practices, assuring that it remains committed to transparent and responsible engagement with all clinical and regulatory processes.
The hospital emphasised that it recognises the depth of the family’s grief and would continue to support them in any way that may bring comfort, while also respecting their privacy.
“As medical professionals, we carry the weight of this loss deeply. Our priority remains compassion, patient safety, and the responsible handling of this matter, while allowing due process to take its course,” the statement added.
Euracare reaffirmed that the Adichie family remains in its thoughts and prayers during the difficult time.
