As the world commemorates the International Day to Protect Education from Attack 2025 today, September 9, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for stronger and united action to safeguard schools and ensure that children continue learning in safe environments.
This year’s global observance, themed “Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action,” highlights the urgent need to move beyond words and take practical steps to shield education from violence, insecurity, and disruption.
“Education is the foundation of hope, and safeguarding it means securing our future,” the First Lady stated, stressing that protecting schools must remain a shared national priority.
She commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their commitment but maintained that communities, parents, and stakeholders must also join hands to defend children’s right to education.
Tinubu also applauded the efforts of international organizations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and the Education Above All Foundation, describing their work in advancing child education worldwide as a model of global solidarity.
The International Day to Protect Education from Attack, established by the United Nations in 2020, draws attention to the millions of children affected by armed conflicts, insurgency, and targeted attacks on learning institutions.
With Nigeria still facing challenges of school abductions and insecurity in parts of the country, the First Lady’s message reinforces calls for sustainable policies, community-driven initiatives, and global partnerships to ensure safe education for all children.
“On this day, I call on all stakeholders to move beyond words and take stronger action to safeguard education,” she added.
