The curfew for the Alaafin of Oyo-designate, Akeem Owoade, to observe the statutory traditional rites ahead of his April 5 coronation has been adjusted to run from 10pm to 4:30am.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Alaafin-designate, Rotimi Osuntola, had announced an 8pm to 6am curfew from Friday to Saturday, March 29, 2025.
However, in a subsequent conversation with The PUNCH, Osuntola explained that the timing was reviewed to accommodate the ongoing Ramadan, allowing Muslims to observe the early morning Fajr and evening Taraweeh prayers.
Owoade arrived in Oyo town on Thursday in preparation for the coronation rites, which commence Friday night.
As part of the rituals, he will spend the night at the Baba Iyaji residence before proceeding to other sacred sites, including Ona Isokun, Ilemole, Bara, and ultimately the Koso chamber, where he will be accompanied by his chiefs and priests.
According to Osuntola’s statement, movement is restricted during the curfew hours, and violators will be arrested and detained until 7am the following day.
