Authorities in Saudi Arabia have confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid-el-Fitr.
With this development, Ramadan will last for 29 days, and Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in the Kingdom.
“The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, 30th March 2025,” Haramain, a Saudi-based online resource, announced on X.
On March 28, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, urged Nigerian Muslims to look out for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH on Monday. This comes three days after the federal government declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays.
Muslims in Nigeria now await the official moon sighting and announcement by the Sultan to confirm the date for Eid celebrations in the country.
Since March 1, Muslims worldwide have observed Ramadan by fasting from dawn to dusk, with the holy month lasting either 29 or 30 days.
