As the world marks the International Day of Education, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has reiterated her commitment to ensuring every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
In a statement released to commemorate the day, the First Lady celebrated the transformative power of education and its pivotal role in shaping the future.
Acknowledging the theme of this year’s celebration, “AI and Education: Human Agency in an Automated World,” Mrs. Tinubu described the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education as both an opportunity and a challenge.
She noted that while AI offers significant potential to enhance learning experiences and foster critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence, it must not replace the indispensable role of human decision-making in education.
“AI has become an integral part of educational systems globally. It holds the potential to empower learners, but it also raises important questions about the balance between technology and human agency,” she stated.
The First Lady called on educators and policymakers to advocate for an inclusive educational curriculum that integrates AI literacy alongside core values and human compassion.
This approach, she emphasized, would ensure that education remains a tool for empowerment while preserving the irreplaceable human touch in teaching and learning.
Reflecting on the progress made in Nigeria’s education sector, Mrs. Tinubu expressed pride in the strides achieved so far but stressed the need for continued investment in the nation’s future by equipping children to overcome challenges and build a better tomorrow.
“On this International Day of Education, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive,” she urged.
