The Lagos State Government has expressed satisfaction with the large turnout and array of small business activities on display at this year’s Food Festival, held at Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in an interview with newsmen at the event, stated that the turnout demonstrated the faith residents and business owners have in the program initiated five years ago.

The Lagos Food Festival served as a platform for players in the food industry to showcase various dishes, local delicacies, and generate brisk business.

The Governor noted that the festival has created significant opportunities for small businesses to thrive. Citing an example, he mentioned Ile Iyan, a small business that participated three years ago and has since grown into a household name. He commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems for hosting a world-class event.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who also displayed his cooking skills alongside Chef T at the event, highlighted that the festival provided a conducive atmosphere for friends and families to have fun and network.

On her part, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said the forum brought together major stakeholders in the food industry, promoting the spirit of Lagos through entertainment and culture.

She added that plans for the 2025 edition align with the state’s five-year agriculture roadmap, which includes improving market infrastructure and supporting farmers year-round to boost food supply and reduce prices.

Regarding the large crowd, Olusanya explained that the government had engaged tertiary institutions across the state, encouraging students to support their colleagues participating in the food competition.

The Commissioner also assured residents that Eko Rice would soon be available in markets statewide at prices lower than imported alternatives.

Participants at the festival expressed their excitement. Mrs. Wuraola Thomas, a fresh fish seller, stated that the Food Festival is now a fixed annual event on her calendar.

Similarly, Mrs. Omolara Kasali, a food vendor, appreciated the state government for creating an enabling environment for small-scale businesses to flourish.

Mr. Wale, who sold shawarma at the event, shared that he had increased his staff for this year’s festival and achieved over 200% revenue growth compared to the previous edition.
