As the election year of 2023 is fast approaching and the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), appears not in a hurry to declare for President, a human rights group, is said to have been set to obtain the nomination form for the 58 years old former Lagos State Governor.
Checks revealed that the right group and pro-democracy organization, Progressive Volunteers, has earmarked a substantial amount of money for the purpose.
The group’s Convener, Comrade Soyoye Ekundayo, however was not categorical when contacted on phone for his reaction, saying doing so can never contravene any law of the land.
When pressed further to volunteer more information, Ekundayo simply asked, “is Fashola not eminently qualified to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari?” wondering what was the big deal in searching for the best for the good people of Nigeria?!
And when asked whether Fashola has approached them to campaign for him, the humble Youth leader politely asserted that the Minister is not even aware that the group was working for him.
Ekundayo however quickly corrected the erroneous impression that his group was working for Fashola by saying that,”rooting for Fashola never means we are working for him but working for Nigeria,” adding, “as patriotic Nigerians, our interest is for the good of the generality of the total citizenry of the country and not for any individual.”
On how does the organization want to source for the funds for the form, Ekundayo said, “if you know our membership numerical strength across the country and beyond, you wouldn’t have asked the question,” expressing confidence that, “our two naira each will buy forms for more than two aspirants.”
