A right activist, Adebayo Oyenekan has taken a critical look at the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s relationship with the youth and described it as commendable, praise worthy and worthy of emulation by those in the authorities across the state.
Oyenekan, who is Founder and Leader of a pro-democracy organization, the Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), in a media interaction in Lagos Friday, particularly mentioned two developments-the governor’s meeting with the youthful comic artist that drew his caricature, Taiwo Osinowo popularly known as Boda Taiye Oniyakuya and the N290m scholarship/bursary fund released by the governor for the state students across the country.
The impressed activist also mentioned the periodic interaction of the governor with the youth through various youth Summits, saying, the attitude has endeared him more to the hearts of the youth, who he said account for about 65% of the populace, declaring that, such a scenario would ginger the youth to aspire to be great to serve as good ambassador of the state in particular and the country as a whole.
Buttressing his assertion, Oyenekan called the attention of the people to the reaction of the comic artist when he said he was warned not to honour the governor’s invitation for fear of arrest, saying the boy’s response when contrary was the case that, the governor’s conduct has erased the bad impression created in the mind of the people about him.
In some climes, Oyenekan said, the boy, whose antics is to draw personalities’ caricature would have regretted the day he was born because of humiliation he would have suffered saying, Sanwo-Olu has proved that, in democracy, all manner of tendencies should be accommodated with the intention of turning destructive tendencies towards positively constructive ones.
He recalled also, the governor’s reported release of N290m for Lagos Students as bursary and scholarship, which he described as another scheme for the upliftment of the youth, asking rhetorically, what could have been more heart-warming and more cheering than such a news!
The report was relayed to the public on behalf of the governor by the Executive Secretary, Lagos Scholarship Board, Omotayo Fakolujo in a release made available to the media on Tuesday.
Oyenekan said this development has further underscored the commitment of the governor to sustain bursary and scholarship programmes amid the economic situation in the country, agreeing that, the Sanwo-Olu administration recognizes the pivotal role education plays in defining the growth and advancement of Lagos.
He therefore thanked the people of the state for their unflinching support for the governor, just as he asked for more to encourage him to do more.
