Ghana women’s national team head coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo said her side showed more intelligence than Nigeria in Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to the Africans champions.
Nigeria’s Uchenna Kanu’s first half double condemned the Black Queens to a first round, first leg loss to the Super Falcons in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Tagoe-Quarcoo heaped praise on her side and expressed confidence they can make the best of the second leg meeting at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 24.
Her words,”So far so good, I think we played well, tactically we were very disciplined, and we came to play football,” Tagoe-Quarcoo said.
“Unfortunately, the Nigerians were stronger and tougher than we were, but when it comes to intelligence, we were far way ahead of them.
“When you are playing an away game, it’s not easy, so we are going back to correct our mistakes. We are going back home and waiting to receive Nigeria in Accra.”
Since the 2018 WAFU-B Women’s Championship triumph in Abidjan, Tagoe-Quarcoo will be eager to avoid a third defeat in a row in four meetings in all competitions with Nigeria under her watch.
An aggregate defeat could see the Black Queens miss out on the continent’s showpiece again after Equatorial Guinea 2012, while a win by three-goal margin will condemn Nigeria to a first-ever miss.
