A pan Lagos youth group, Epe Youth Forum (EYF), has described as a welcome idea, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable safe water in the state, saying, he has once again proved that, the welfare of the people, health wise, is uppermost in his mind.
The Forum, in a statement from its Convener, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo, observed that, Governor Sanwo-Olu appreciate the damage unsafe water could cause in a densely populated city like Lagos, reminding that, most water borne diseases like cholera are mostly communicable.
The Forum expressed the delight that, Sanwo-Olu’s attitude of prevention is better and cheaper than cure has endeared him more to the heart of the citizenry, agreeing with the governor that, a stich in time safes nine.
The statement reminded that, since water is indispensable to human existence; Sanwo-Olu’s steps towards its security and access to inhabitants of a State with like Lagos wher over 24 million people live should be commended, stressing the need for support and cooperation for such a caring administration
The EYF was reacting to the governor’s assurance that his administration is committed to providing sustainable safe water to residents of the state at the second edition of Lagos International Water Conference held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, with the theme “Water Security and Investment Opportunities in Megacities: A case of Lagos State.”
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Qadir Hamzat was reported to have said that, the state government is poised to bridge the gap between daily water demand and supply in the State, and harness the investment opportunities in the water sector.
The Forum gave kudos to the governor for his commitment to make the state remain a global point of reference in the provision of sustainable safe water and sanitation for the increasing population of the state, asserting that, the importance of clean water in a mega city like Lagos can never be over emphasised.
The youth Forum further gave the governor a pat on the back for not relenting in his dogged dedication to ensure hygienic water to the populace despite some likely hindrances, assuring that, all his administration’s efforts at providing providing safe water for the people and make the water sector economically viable are appreciated by the good people of the state.
In conclusion, the organization urged the populace to reciprocate the governor’s good gesture towards making the citizenry healthy, just as it advocated relevant legislations that would strictly compel the residents to protect water from being polluted to guarantee that the government’s efforts are not in vain.
