A pro-democracy group, Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), has expressed excitement over the news that the dreaded Coronavirus code-named COVID-19 is on the decline in Lagos State, saying, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserves special honour for this achievement.

Leader of the group, Comrade Adebayo Oyenekan, in a statement in Lagos weekend suggested that, “the award should be granting Lagos State a Special Status as the former Nation’s capital that still remains the Commercial and economic headquarters of the country.”

Oyenekan said, the Federal Government should consider the request now bearing in mind that, “Governor Sanwo-Olu, with his current performance is capable of handling it perfectly that he would be able to sustain and even increase the 55% the country is raking in from the state.”

Going down the memory lane, the youth leader reminded that, when the dreaded COVID-19 first reared its ugly head in the country, it showed the potentiality of a disease capable of wiping out the nation, saying, Sanwo-Olu’s prompt action safe the country of likely calamity.

He said all steps taken by him to curtail the menace were so impressive that two international bodies, the United Nation (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO) did not hesitate to commend him for a job being well done.

The young activist said, apart from provision of required gadgets to fight the deadly virus like kits, conducive Isolation Centres, medical equipment and necessary incentives, “Sanwo-Olu also recruited additional doctors to augment the efforts of the well trained medical personnel on ground.”

The highly impressed pro-democracy advocate also expressed the delight that, “as Sanwo-Olu fights the deadly monster, he never allowed that to detract him from performing his duties in all the sectors of the economy,” describing him as, “a cool-headed and strategic operator who never loses focus on the onerous task of state building.”

Oyenekan however did not forget to thank the Federal Government under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari who he described as the true father of the nation, commending him for his support that contributed to the success of the governor.

“We have to thank President Buhari over his support to save the country from the killer disease. Nigerians are appreciative of his good gestures towards humanity. He is a good father and he should be commended for being a good father,” the activist declared.

He also gave kudos to the Lagos residents for their patience, endurance and cooperation with Governor Sanwo-Olu through their compliance with the preventive measures put in place to see to the end of the monster, saying, “with their cooperation, the ray of hope is already manifesting with the reported decline in the monster’s power.”

Expectedly, the group therefore seized the opportunity to urge the people to double their support for the governor so as to encourage him to surpass his present performance that earned him accolade across the globe especially his outstanding performance in the fight against coronavirus pandemic that has been reported to be on the decline.

While remembering the roles played by the donors towards the COVID-19 fight, the group leader, who commended them for their intervention however added that door of more donations is not close yet, reminding that, “it is not over until it is properly over.”
