A Lagos based pro-democracy and human rights activist, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo, has commended the Federal Government on its resolve to repair the Third Mainland Bridge, saying, it is a welcome development from a responsible and responsive administration.

Comrade Oladipupo, who is the Convener of the Epe Youth Forum (EYF), has therefore urged the people to support the Federal Government, under President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the success of the project.

The youthful group leader made the call in a statement in Lagos where he reasoned that the repairs would be of immense benefit to all Nigerians going by the fact that Lagos State is home to all Nigerians, asserting that, the Federal Government means well with the project genuinely devoid of political consideration.

While describing the planned repairs as harkening to the yearning of the people by the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration towards ensuring the safety of the citizenry, Oladipupo therefore called for understanding and maximum cooperation with the government over the project, which he said would be closed for a period of six months.

He admitted that, that period would call for sacrifice, endurance and perseverance from all Nigerians because of the inevitable hardship it would bring upon the citizenry, reminding that, there is always gains after pains.

Oladipupo however said the consolation would lie in the assurance that the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), who would be in charge, would do a good job to the admiration of the people, saying, going by his pedigree, Fashola is known for perfection.

While believing that, the planned work must have been long overdue, the youth leader was of the view that it is would serve as a stitch in time that saves nine, stressing that it would amount to lack of foresight on the part of the government has allowed accident to have happened on the bridge before thinking of doing the right things it is about doing now.

He further urged the generality of the people to continue to encourage President Muhammadu Buhari more to continue doing the right things like the planned project of putting the 30 years old bridge in good shape.

Recall the one of the longest bridge in Africa was built in 1990 by the administration of former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retd).

The statement further expressed confidence Fashola, under whose the project falls, stating that since a competent, workaholic and man with a Midas touch, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), is going to handle it, Nigerians can go to sleep and snore in the belief that the super Minister would do a good job that would last very long.

Oladipupo reminded the people of Fashola’s excellent performance since when he was the governor of Lagos state for two terms before becoming a super Minister, asserting that, the project would be delivered on scheduled and with good quality.

In addition, the EYF reminded that since the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, another achiever, has assured Nigerians that hitch free motoring would be guaranteed throughout the period of the closure by providing alternative routes with clear traffic signs, the problem of the motorists and the commuters was already half solved as the expected traffic hiccups would be reduced drastically.

The Forum therefore advised generality of road users to exhibit the highest degree of patience tolerance, and cooperate fully with the law enforcement agencies and traffic officials, reminding the people of the importance of making, safety as watchword.
