The Federal Government has approved the construction of six ultra-modern bus terminals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones under the National Public Transport Project, in a move aimed at transforming the country’s land transportation system.
Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He said the project, valued at ₦142.03 billion, forms part of the legacy initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration and is designed to improve travel safety, reduce accidents, and curb illegal highway activities.
“This is the first time the federal government is investing in modern bus terminals. They were sited for economic viability and security,” Alkali stated, adding that the facilities would also serve as tools for economic, social, and political development.
The terminals will be located in Abeokuta (South West), Gombe (North East), Kano (North West), Lokoja (North Central), Onitsha (South East), and Warri (South South).
During the meeting, President Tinubu commended cabinet members for their commitment, resilience, and hard work in implementing the administration’s reforms.
