The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eng. Adedeji Doherty, has cautioned APC governors attacking the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to retrace their steps, describing their actions as diversionary.

Doherty said the governors should instead focus their energy on their constitutional responsibility of securing and improving the well-being of their citizens.

Addressing newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his return to the country, Doherty said the Rainbow Coalition proposed by Wike would not affect the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

According to him, the governors were unnecessarily heating up the polity, questioning why they had not challenged other opposition governors in Abia, Anambra and Osun states who have openly declared support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The PDP Lagos State flagbearer said the interest of the country should be the priority of the governors rather than the Rainbow Coalition, adding that President Tinubu, whom he said he had known for over 20 years, was pleased with Wike’s activities.

He therefore advised both parties to cease fire and support the President’s ongoing reforms in the larger interest of Nigerians.

Doherty acknowledged that the removal of fuel subsidy had created hardship across the country but questioned what the governors were doing to cushion the impact on residents of their respective states, given the substantial resources they receive monthly.

On his governorship ambition, Doherty promised to slash taxes paid by the majority of Lagos residents, including teachers and doctors, from his first day in office.

He also promised to provide free medical care for the young and elderly, while according priority to free education across the state.

Doherty, however, acknowledged that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had tried his best for the people of Lagos, assuring that his administration would make a fundamental impact within seven days of assuming office.

He also promised to provide a conducive environment for youths living on the streets who have become homeless and resorted to scavenging to survive, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

The governorship hopeful further said the PDP was fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, adding that the party’s campaign council would soon be inaugurated.
