Over 5,000 women in Akwa Ibom State have thrown their support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for second terms in office, during a massive gathering held in Uyo, the state capital.
The event, which also featured the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, highlighted the critical role of women in societal development, governance, and community leadership.
In her address, the First Lady encouraged women to take active roles in shaping their communities, stating that empowering women drives national growth.
“Protecting the rights of women and girls through education, healthcare, economic opportunities, social protection, and equity is an investment in our collective future,” she said. “When women lead with purpose, the entire nation benefits.”
Senate President Akpabio praised women for their foundational contributions to family and societal stability, while Governor Eno reiterated that the progress of any society depends largely on the participation and leadership of women.
The highlight of the gathering was the official endorsement of President Tinubu, Governor Eno, and Senate President Akpabio for second terms, formally declared by Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi and other leading women in the state.
Before the political endorsements, First Lady Tinubu commissioned an ultra-modern Senior Citizens Center named in her honor.
Designed by the late Pastor Patience Eno, the center will offer healthcare, recreational activities, and social support in a dignified environment.
The First Lady urged families and communities to complement government efforts with love and care for the elderly, calling the center a model other states should emulate.
