The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Monday swore in Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, alongside the appointment of a new Permanent Secretary.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the new chairman to prioritise grassroots development by initiating people-oriented policies that address the daily needs and realities of residents of Agege Local Government.
He urged Obasa to build on existing structures and deliver inclusive governance at the community level.
According to him,”Today, I swore in Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the Chairman of Agege Local Government. He had been acting in this role following the resignation of the former chairman, Tunde Azeez, due to health reasons.
“I also swore in Mrs. Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa as Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation.
“In Lagos, public office is about service. We appoint people we trust to be capable, dependable, and committed to putting the needs of the people first.
“Leadership in our state, whether in politics or the civil service, must reflect the will of the people and deliver real results. That is the standard we owe Lagosians.
“To those sworn in today, the offices you now hold come with serious responsibility. Our residents expect hard work, integrity, and visible impact, and anything less is unacceptable.
“To our public servants and political leaders, dedication still counts. Merit still matters. Excellence is recognised in Lagos, and it will always be encouraged,” he added.
Hon. Tunde Azeez had earlier, in November, resigned from office due to health challenges, paving the way for his deputy, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, to formally assume leadership of the council.
The resignation was confirmed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Haruna Adeshina, who disclosed that Azeez’s letter was formally presented to the council legislature and forwarded to the governor for approval.
Adeshina noted that councillors unanimously commended Azeez’s decision, describing it as honourable and in the overall interest of effective governance in the local government.
“We commend Hon. Tunde Azeez for prioritising his health and ensuring a smooth transition of leadership,” he said.
He praised Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa for displaying leadership capacity and administrative competence during the period he served as acting chairman.
