It was all cheers and excitement in Alausa as Oluwaseun Evelyn of Farm 2 Fill clinched the crown at the maiden edition of the Most Beautiful Farmer Lagos competition, organised by the Farm Junction Foundation in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems.
Evelyn outshone 12 other finalists to emerge overall winner, taking home a ₦15 million truck as her grand prize.
Baliqees Ibrahim of Green Republic Farms came second and received ₦2 million, while Oluwaseun Obadan of Arso Farms finished third, earning ₦1 million.
The remaining nine contestants didn’t leave empty-handed — each received a ₦250,000 consolation prize.
Speaking at the colourful grand finale held at the Martinos Event Centre, CBD, Alausa, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said the contest was not just about physical beauty but about showcasing creativity, intelligence, and expertise in agriculture.
“This competition is designed to celebrate the brains and innovation behind food production, not just beauty,” she said.
Olusanya reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency, adding that the next edition might include men to make it even more inclusive. She commended the organisers for their dedication, revealing that it took over a year of planning to make the competition a reality.
She also announced that the winners would be specially presented during the World Food Day grand finale on October 16 at the Police College, Ikeja.
Addressing the contestants’ concerns, Olusanya reminded them that the government had earlier provided free inputs to farmers and that the new Eko Logistics initiative would boost cold-chain storage and transport for perishable produce.
In her victory speech, a visibly excited Oluwaseun Evelyn thanked the organisers and the Lagos State Government for the platform, promising to use her win to inspire young Nigerians to take agriculture seriously.
“I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity. We’re all winners, and we’ll keep working together to promote food sustainability in Lagos,” she said with a bright smile.
The event was a vibrant mix of glamour, culture, and innovation — proving that in Lagos, farming truly is beautiful.
